Men’s chinos: Your go-to pair of trousers
Men’s chinos are one of the most versatile types of trousers. They're smarter than your favourite jeans, but they're not as dressy as formal trousers. This makes them ideal for so many occasions. You can dress them up to wear to the office, but they're easily dressed down, too. With just a few twists in styling, men's chinos can be worn on almost every occasion. These trousers are usually made from cotton, or a cotton blend fabric, which makes them suitable for wearing all year round. They should fit you in a similar way to a pair of straight-legged jeans: They're not supposed to be tight in any place, but they shouldn't be loose and baggy, either.
Choosing the right colour
Black chinos for men are always a popular choice, but they may not be the most versatile pair you can go for. They'll look fine for the office, but they're not as easy to dress down on casual occasions. If you plan to take your chinos from the workplace to the weekend and you want a dark colour, navy may be a better idea. Don't neglect light colours, either. Khaki or tan men’s chinos are classic, though they look a little more casual than darker shades. If you really want to stand out, you can find some in other colours, too. Red trousers make a bold statement; they're not for the faint-hearted, but if you want to try them, you're sure to make an impact!
How to style chinos
When you're going to the office, wear your chinos with a button-down shirt. You can add a blazer; for a look that's more smart-casual than formal, keep things mismatched. Try a checked blazer, for example. Be aware, though, that this look is fine for many workplaces - but if your office is very formal, you're better off sticking to a traditional suit. When you're dressing down, you might want to avoid T-shirts. Unless you've chosen a slim-fitting style, men’s chinos can look too casual. Instead, choose a polo shirt for a look that's relaxed but still smart. In cold weather, you can add a slim-fitting V-neck jumper, or go for a bigger knit jumper with bulky ribbing or interesting cables for some visual flair. Finish the look with a pair of deck shoes for timeless style.
