MARC O'POLO: the perfect blend of premium and casual
MARC O'POLO believes in creating contemporary casual wear using natural materials, quality craftsmanship and attention to detail. The brand appeals to self-confident individuals who are unafraid to rock a vintage style. The Swedish brand takes inspiration from its Scandinavian roots to curate refined, urban collections, working their sporty vibe into simple, everyday looks. Expect to find flowing dresses in hushed prints and jumpers & cardigans in rich dark colours. Monochrome and muted patterns prevail in between the occasional flash of brighter blue and red. The company started with handwoven patchwork shirts made using Indian cotton. Later they expanded into complete men's and women's wear collections, steadily working up to their big break – a legendary logo sweatshirt. Synonymous with youthful, everyday fashion, the simple sweatshirt became a staple in 90s wardrobes. Even today, the retro shape remains a core of their sweatshirts & hoodies range. You can find denim clothing from the label with their MARC O'POLO Denim range.
Back to the beginning
MARC O'POLO was born in Stockholm in 1967 when Rolf Lind and Göte Huss teamed up with Jerry O'Sheets to create a cotton shirt line. With the market quickly moving to the more affordable synthetics, the founders' shared passion for natural fibres kept them together. Rolf, Göte and Jerry have been creating innovative apparel ever since, using fabric imported from the East. Inspired by the famous explorer Marco Polo, the founders decided that his stylised name would best represent their authenticity. The trio's philosophy of originality and freedom shines through their devotion to source the best natural fibres for their garments. To celebrate turning 50, the company collaborated with music legend Robbie Williams to create a collection of unisex ultra-comfortable sweatshirts. French fashion illustrator Garance Doré also came on board to design a capsule wardrobe that saw his art incorporated into oversized coats and dresses.
How to wear MARC O'POLO
Lovers of comfortable, natural fabrics will flock to the brand. For both men and women building a capsule wardrobe, their laid-back pieces will provide the basics to mix and match with more fast-fashion options. Blending effortlessly with both neutrals and more vibrant fabrics, their muted colours and understated patterns will help you look put-together any day of the week. Try pairing one of their short-sleeved blouses with a puffer jacket over slim fit jeans for some rock-chic glam; swap the jacket for one of their Denim-line sweatshirts to dress it down, or add stiletto heels to dress it up. Their loose-fitting chinos, in a serene palette of grey and brown, will make for an effortlessly unisex silhouette. Sneakers are subtly monogrammed for added oomph while Chelsea boots offer a classic finish. To stay sharp in a formal setting, button-up shirts should be your go-to, while well-cut coats can take you everywhere – over a tee for a preppy aesthetic, or layered with a jumper when the weather cools. In fact, MARC O'POLO makes great winter fashion, so arm yourself with at least a knit cardigan to keep warm in even the harshest weather.
