Free People: Bohemian fashion at its best
Free People is a Boho-chic dream come true. According to the brand's founder, they design for the 26-year-old creative, adventurous, free-spirited girl. When creating the collections, they make sure to add variety, so no two girls will look identical. Expect to find geometric lace panels, sexy cut-outs, delicate frills and most importantly, a comfortable fit. No cloth is symmetrical in structure. Their dresses, blouses & tunics are fluffy clouds of boldly printed chiffon, flaring sleeves and occasional off-shoulder cuts. Their dreamy collection would be incomplete without boots in the softest of suede leather, and jewellery with mystical-looking shapes and stones. Staying loyal to the heart of the Bohemian, the colours of the brand never veer too far away from nature. What's not to love about the sunset-inspired reds, the midnight blues and lunar greys?
The history behind the brand
What began as a tiny outlet in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has now grown to a brand sold in 1400 speciality stores in the US, Canada and the UK. Free People started in 1970 when Richard Hayne opened a boutique dedicated to young people looking for freedom in the clothes they wore. When the store grew to two, he changed the name to Urban Outfitters. The brand took on many more identities along the way, such as Ecote, Bulldog and Anthropologie, to name a few. However, in 1994, Richard and his wife Meg decided to go back to their roots and revive the original brand as a wholesale supplier. Today, the brand is headquartered in Pennsylvania and has a large showroom in the UK where they showcase every month, in addition to supplying 136 independent boutiques. Over the years, the brand's collaboration with influencers has made it so popular that it is now synonymous with Bohemian style fashion.
Free People – from our online store into your wardrobe
Those in touch with the hippie spirit will immediately get hooked to the brand's clothing. If you are new to Boho-chic, start with jackets; they instantly upgrade any outfit and are amazingly easy to style. Add a bag or belt of similar colour, and you'll be good to go. You will find comfort in the free and flowing fabrics of their dresses, best styled with simple sandals and jewellery. A pair of flared jeans in white or a soft denim colour is the perfect match for your shirts & tops. However, if you are feeling bold, you can go for skirts in bright funky prints. Layering is at the essence of Boho-chic, so do not be afraid of scarves and cardigans. It is best to go monochrome, but you can still look impressive in well-coordinated mixed prints.
